Introduction The Jimmy Rane Foundation was created to help deserving students pursue a college education. To date the Foundation has granted 680 scholarships to hardworking, outstanding students. Recipients have used these awards at institutions across the country, including Auburn, Alabama, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Indiana, Troy, Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Georgia and many others. The Foundation believes these scholars will accomplish great things with their education and, in time, pay that generosity forward. Application timeline - The 2024 Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarship application cycle is closed. - The 2025 application will open on December 1, 2024. - The application deadline will be in early February 2025. Eligibility requirements To be considered for a Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship an applicant must meet all of the following conditions: - Scholarship funds must be used at an accredited institution that (a) maintains a regular faculty and curriculum, (b) has an organized student body attending at the site where instruction is provided, and (c) is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as accredited by recognized accrediting agencies. - Employees of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, its parent company, affiliates, and subsidiaries — as well as their immediate family members or anyone living in the same household — are not eligible. - Applicants must certify they did not participate as a student‑athlete (including on any partial or full athletic scholarship) in intercollegiate sports during the prior semester (or quarter, if applicable) or academic year, and they will not participate as a student‑athlete in intercollegiate athletics during the coming semester (or quarter, if applicable) or academic year. - Students enrolled exclusively in fully online or distance‑learning degree programs are not eligible.* - High school seniors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. - College applicants (freshmen or sophomores) must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. - College applicants must be enrolled full time as a freshman or sophomore and be no older than 20 years of age as of August 1, 2025, and be progressing normally toward a bachelor’s degree. - High school applicants must be enrolled full time as a senior, progressing normally toward graduation in Spring/Summer 2025, and intend to enroll in college no later than the Fall immediately following graduation. - Applicants must reside (permanent home address) in one of the following states or the District of Columbia: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia. - Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. - Online or distance‑learning courses are acceptable only when they are part of a required curriculum that includes instruction in the campus environment, or when a particular course is offered exclusively via online or distance delivery as part of a campus‑based degree program. What the Foundation looks for Jimmy Rane Foundation scholars are expected to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, community involvement, honors/awards, and documented financial need to attend college. Applicants should show determination to overcome obstacles and the capacity to achieve their goals. Applications are evaluated on: - Future goals and the plans to accomplish them - Evidence of preparation during high school for college success - Self‑motivation in tackling rigorous coursework - Demonstrated financial need *Note: Students pursuing degrees solely through online or distance learning programs are ineligible, except where online coursework is part of a campus‑based program or a required course is only available online.
