Arkansas State University holds the right to modify the scholarship program based on the availability of funds and the number of eligible applicants.
Eligibility for High School Graduates
The scholarship is exclusively granted during the senior year of high school.
Scholarship Benefits:
- The ASTATE Spirit Scholarship offers an annual amount of $3000, divided between the Fall and Spring semesters.
- The scholarship is applicable for courses undertaken at the Arkansas State University-Jonesboro campus only.
- The scholarship is granted for eight consecutive semesters or until the completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever comes first, given that the student fulfills all scholarship requirements.
Qualification Criteria:
- The scholarship is granted during the senior year to U.S. citizens who are high school graduates.
- Students must be admitted to the university, which includes submitting an admissions application with fee, official ACT or SAT scores, and an official six-semester transcript.
- Students must have a minimum ACT composite score of 24 and a high school GPA of at least 3.250 on a six-semester transcript.
- The deadline for the scholarship application is December 1 of the high school senior year. Award letters will be sent out during the third week of December. All awards are dependent on state-supported available funds.
- The number of awards is limited.
Responsibilities of ASTATE Spirit Scholarship Recipients:
- Selected students have until May 1 of their senior year to accept the scholarship, although it is advised to accept within 30 days. The scholarship offer expires after May 1. If you accept the scholarship and later decide to attend another university, please inform the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office in writing or by email at scholarships@astate.edu.
- Full-time enrollment of 15 college-level credit hours at the ASUJ campus is mandatory during each consecutive Fall and Spring semester. Concurrent enrollment at another campus cannot be used to meet full-time enrollment status nor be paid for by the scholarship. Enrollment is locked as of the 11th class day.
- Students must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree.
- All online programs are ineligible for Institutional Scholarships.
- Students must enroll at ASUJ in the Fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
- Any student who enrolls full-time at another college, university, technical college, or branch of ASU during a regular semester (Fall or Spring) following high school will automatically lose the scholarship.
- Students taking a developmental course as part of their 15 ASUJ hours and planning to test out of the course must contact the Scholarships Office before taking the test to discuss potential options for retaining the scholarship.
- All college coursework is included in the overall GPA for scholarship renewal.
- Students with grade changes must contact the Scholarships Office for a reevaluation of their scholarship status.
- For military exceptions, contact the ASU Scholarships Office at (870) 972-2310.
- Recipients can take classes at the Paragould campus and still receive their scholarship.
- Dependents of faculty and staff who are scholarship recipients will receive 25% of the scholarship value per semester for ASUJ credit hours in addition to the faculty/staff discount.
Scholarship Renewal:
- Students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.250 and successfully complete 30 ASUJ hours (Fall and Spring combined) each academic year. Students with incomplete grades will lose their scholarship if they do not meet the scholarship criteria. Accepted transfer credits will be included in the overall GPA.
- Any student who receives all W’s, F’s, WN’s, I’s and/or FN’s at the end of any fall term (including Freshman year) will forfeit their scholarship for all subsequent semesters.
- Probation - Any Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior level recipient who does not meet their renewal criteria at the end of the spring semester will have until the end of that Summer II term to achieve an overall 3.250 GPA and successfully complete 30 ASUJ hours (Fall, Spring, and both Summer I and Summer II combined) or they will lose the scholarship for all subsequent semesters. All classes taken during probation for hour and GPA deficit must be ASUJ hours.
