Ray DeVries Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Sponsored by Washington Farm Bureau

Overview
Each year the Washington Farm Bureau awards up to five (5) Ray DeVries Memorial Scholarships, each worth $2,000. Completed applications must be received by the Washington Farm Bureau office no later than July 30, 2025.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
1. Be either a Farm Bureau member or the son, daughter, or legal dependent of a Farm Bureau member family with a current membership.

2. Be enrolled at an accredited college, university, or technical school.
3. Be pursuing a program in agriculture or a closely related field (examples: food science, horticulture, agricultural technician courses, animal science, agricultural business, etc.).
- If your major is not directly agricultural, follow the instructions in section 4 of the cover sheet.
4. Have completed at least one year of post-secondary education.

Application materials
Include the completed cover sheet and submit the following items:
1. An official or student copy of your college/university transcript that includes the spring term just completed. Minimum GPA required: 2.0.
2. At least two letters of recommendation, one of which must come from a college or university advisor.
3. A one- to two-page essay describing your chosen vocation or profession and how you expect to contribute to agriculture in the future.
4. If your studies are outside a traditional agricultural program, provide a statement of approximately 300 words explaining how your chosen field applies to agriculture. Elective coursework (as shown on your transcript) and listed student activities must support this statement.
5. A summary of activities and service (this may be provided as a resume). Include involvement at high school and college (FFA, clubs, student government, departmental organizations, etc.), community service (4-H, volunteer projects, religious or civic organizations), contributions to your family (help with a family farming operation or other responsibilities), and all work experience. Include any awards received.
6. A short essay about the importance of Farm Bureau and how you see yourself participating in agricultural leadership in the future.
7. A proposed budget for the upcoming school year listing anticipated expenses (tuition, books, room and board, etc.) and resources/assets to cover them (savings, wages, parental support, other scholarships, etc.), showing how you will finance your education beyond this scholarship.
8. Your planned fall term class schedule (a college enrollment printout or a signed statement from your advisor).
9. A photograph of yourself suitable for publication.

All documents must be attached to the cover sheet and submitted by the July 30, 2025 deadline.
