Intro
Scholarships are a way for us to acknowledge your accomplishments. Entrance scholarships are available to incoming, full‑time first‑year degree students who are starting university or college for the first time.
What scholarships and bursaries are based on
- Scholarships are awarded mainly for academic performance and personal achievements.
- Bursaries are a separate form of support provided on the basis of financial need.
Timing and how you’ll be notified
Scholarship decisions are typically made in mid‑May after we receive updated grade information from Ontario high schools. Specific award details will appear in your Waterloo applicant portal beginning in mid‑May.
Automatic entrance scholarships (based on admission average)
- President’s Scholarship of Distinction: admission average 95% or higher
- President’s Scholarship: admission average 90%–94.9%
- Merit Scholarship: admission average 85%–89.9%

Scholarships that require an application
- Awards for Black and Indigenous students (up to $40,000)
- Schulich Leader Scholarships in Engineering, Math, and Science (up to $120,000)
- Awards for Math and Environment students (up to $50,000)
- Other awards (up to $20,000)
