Awards Available: 2
Deadline : Apr 15, 2026

Overview
The Charles Shelton Foundation awards two annual, non-renewable scholarships of $2,000 each to students pursuing veterinary-related study.

How the award is paid
After a recipient has enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution and submitted proof of that enrollment to the Foundation, the award will be issued as a check made payable to the recipient’s school. Proof of enrollment must be submitted on or before August 31. Awards are released in two installments: September 1 and January 1. If there is a tie in the selection process, the available scholarship funds will be divided between the top two applicants.

- Must be a legal U.S. resident and live in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (an official transcript in a sealed envelope is required).

Required application materials
- Completed Veterinary Scholarship Form.
- Two professional references from professors who can attest to your experience in Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Technology. One reference must be from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) professor. (For post-secondary applicants, one reference should be from your current veterinary college.)

- Resume listing achievements, honors, community service, and school involvement.

Essay requirements
- High school applicants: an essay of 500–750 words responding to the prompt below.
- Post-secondary/veterinary college applicants: a minimum 1,500-word essay responding to the same prompt.

Essay prompt
Laboratory animal medicine and research are carried out to advance human and veterinary medical knowledge. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of administering treatments that may advance science but could cause pain or discomfort to research animals.

Selection notes

- In the event of a selection tie, the scholarship amount will be split between the top candidates.
