Island Institute Scholarship — Overview
The Island Institute Scholarship supports students connected to Maine’s island and coastal communities. Eligible applicants include those who live on or attend school on any of Maine’s 15 year-round, unbridged islands, students enrolled at Deer Isle / Stonington High School, and residents of St. George. Candidates may apply beginning in their senior year of high school. Awardees receive $1,500 per year for up to four years (maximum $6,000) to help cover the cost of post-secondary study or vocational training.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Be a resident of or attend high school on one of Maine’s 15 year-round, unbridged islands, or be a student at Deer Isle / Stonington High School, or a resident of St. George.
- Be currently enrolled in—or have completed—the highest grade offered at your island or coastal school.
- Be a current high school senior (applications open beginning in senior year).
- Special situations (for example, age exceptions or island residency complications, including magnet students) will be reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis.
