Mel C Marshall Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by California Precast Concrete
The Mel C. Marshall Scholarship was established with the aim of motivating high school seniors and college students to pursue careers in the precast concrete industry. It also offers a platform for scholarship recipients to interact with the CPCA while receiving financial assistance.
Eligibility Criteria:
High school seniors or current college students who are planning to enroll full-time in an academic institution for the upcoming academic year, starting from the semester after the application date, are eligible to apply. The student's field of study must be associated with the building, construction, or precast concrete industry, which can encompass safety, accounting, IT, etc. Applicants must be residents of California.
Application Process:
Applicants must include the following documents with their application:
- High school and/or college transcripts up to the most recent grading period before the application date. The high school transcript should include ACT/SAT scores and class rank.
- A recommendation letter from a high school or college faculty member.
- A sponsorship letter from a CPCA member in good standing. (Assistance in contacting a member can be provided by the CPCA office.)
Academic Institution:
The academic institution must be a college/university or community college located in the United States that offers a minimum two-year program related to the building, construction, or precast industry.
Scholarship Program:
Upon approval by the Scholarship Committee, recipients who meet the following criteria will receive awards of $500 per semester:
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5. If grades drop below this threshold, the student will be put on probation for one semester. If the grade level does not improve, future scholarship awards will be forfeited.
- Continue to pursue a course of study in the aforementioned fields.
- Submit transcripts each semester as soon as they become available.
- Provide proof of enrollment in an approved educational institution.
Scholarship Award Procedure:
Applications for scholarships must be submitted by October 31 for the academic year starting the following Spring, and by June 30 for the Fall semester.
The CPCA office will receive the applications and CPCA staff will review them for completeness and accuracy. All necessary information must be provided.
Before forwarding the applications to the Scholarship Committee, CPCA staff will remove the names of the student, parents, and the applicant’s sponsor. The Committee will then evaluate the students based on a uniform points system, considering the materials included in the applicant’s submission. The highest-scoring applicants will be awarded the scholarships.
